Due to the COVID-19 pandemic many local nonprofit organizations were forced to cancel their annual fundraising events. The organizations rely heavily on these events to support their cause and budget. While some were fortunate to be able to move to a virtual experience, many could not. Our nonprofit organizations are also struggling due to an overall decrease in giving. FACT is a local, not for profit organization offering financial assistance to cancer patients in Seneca County (and Fostoria addresses in Wood County). FACT provides financial assistance for transportation to cancer treatments and doctor visits, and reimbursement for cancer medications, treatment and supplies not covered by insurance. FACT is governed by an all-volunteer board which allows 100% of donations to go to clients. Last year, thanks to tremendous community support, FACT gave out nearly $239,000 to more than 200 clients. FACT is a partner with Fostoria United Way and is an Associate Member of Tiffin United Way.

FCFHF matches the needs of Fostorians with available resources. The agency administers several aid programs, including the Emergency Relief Fund of United Way of Fostoria. The ERF provides emergency assistance for mortgage or rent, utilities, food, and access to health and medical care to Fostorians impacted by COVID-19. FCFHF also coordinates with other agencies to sponsor food distributions from the West Ohio Food Bank as well as drives to collect food, toiletries and cleaning supplies in support of the helping agencies.

Seneca-Crawford Area Transportation, (SCAT) provides transportation to all residents in Seneca and Crawford Counties, including Metro Fostoria. Many of the people who use our transit service are the elderly, disable and/or economically disadvantaged. The main goal of our agency is to ensure the freedom of mobility, especially the elderly and those with disabilities. There has been a steady increase of elderly and disabled residents needing public transportation. SCAT continues to provide a safe and reliable transportation service for all Seneca and Crawford residents to get them to life’s basic needs: medical appointments, grocery shopping and even to the beauty shop. SCAT also provides medical transportation to the urban cities: Cleveland, Toledo and Columbus, where residents can access specialized medical appointments.

UWF conducts an annual community-wide fundraising campaign to raise support for 16 Agency Partners which provide health, education, income stability and safety net services to Fostorians. UWF monitors emerging and unmet community needs. It works to meet these needs through its community impact grants and in cooperation with local service agencies, government, schools, churches and businesses. The newly created Emergency Relief Fund enables UFW to respond quickly to assist victims during this time of COVID-19 pandemic.
